Film and TV are recognised as strong influencers on prospective visitors and in recent years – given that the island of Ireland has provided the backdrop for many popular films and TV shows – there have been many opportunities for Tourism Ireland to leverage this area.
2025 screen tourism opportunities include the film How to Train Your Dragon, which was filmed in multiple locations in Northern Ireland including Dunseverick Castle, Murlough Bay and Tollymore Forest.
2024 screen tourism opportunities included the Netflix film Irish Wish, which was filmed on location at Kilruddery House and Lough Tay in County Wicklow, Westport and the Cliffs of Moher. Tourism Ireland’s activity included a media visit to filming locations, which generated significant coverage in Great Britain, with a reach of 3.2 million. We also shared a behind-the-scenes film for season two of The Tourist, wowing our millions of fans and followers on social media with beautiful footage captured in Wicklow, Achill Island and Dublin. West Cork, Wicklow and Dublin featured in the Netflix comedic thriller Bodkin and Tourism Ireland created a short behind-the-scenes film to highlight our stunning scenery. Tourism Ireland also unveiled a new video to coincide with the launch of season three of Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix, which was partially filmed in Ireland.
