About the Emerging Markets

While approximately 69% of our overseas visitors come from our top four markets (Great Britain, the United States, Germany and France), it is important to expand our focus beyond the traditional markets to the longer-term opportunities presented by emerging tourism markets like China, the Middle East and India. Our dependence on our top four markets continues to lessen over time, as we continue to diversify into other markets.

The British-Irish Visa Scheme has opened up new opportunities from China and India, making it easier for visitors from those countries to come to the island of Ireland; the scheme allows Chinese and Indian nationals to visit both Ireland and the UK, including Northern Ireland, using a single visa. And the Middle East has benefited from the announcement of visa-free travel for UAE nationals to Ireland, since 2018.
