Wild Atlantic Way captivates German audiences in popular travel programme

500,000+ Germans view beautiful Clare, Galway and Mayo

The Wild Atlantic Way was showcased recently in a popular German travel documentary series called Wunderschön (which roughly translates as ‘absolutely beautiful’). The special Ireland episode was seen by over 500,000 people across Germany on the public TV network WDR. It will air on other TV channels over the coming months, reaching an estimated 3 million viewers in total. Filming took place here last summer and was supported by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The episode was filmed at multiple locations in Clare, Galway and Mayo – with host Tamina Kallert visiting the Cliffs of Moher, Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths and McGann’s Pub in Doolin, the Burren, Burren Smokehouse, Corcomroe Abbey, Hazel Mountain Chocolate, Micil Distillery and The Irish Dance Experience in Galway city. In Connemara, filming took place in Clifden and at Derryclare Lough, Dog’s Bay, Kylemore Abbey, Killary Fjord, the Sky Road, Killary Sheep Farm and Roundstone Music and Crafts. The crew also filmed in Westport, at Bertra Beach and Doolough Valley and at Keem Bay on Achill Island.
