Sandi Toksvig embarks on ‘odyssey’ around the island of Ireland in new Channel 4 travel series

Tourism Ireland supports new TV series set to air in Britain later this year

Danish-British broadcaster, author and comedian Sandi Toksvig is in Ireland this week, filming for a brand-new, two-part travel series called Sandi Toksvig’s Irish Odyssey. The series will air later this year on Channel 4 and is supported by Tourism Ireland.

Produced by Cornelia Street Productions, the series will see Sandi – a lifelong lover of literature, theatre and music – follow in the footsteps of some of Ireland’s literary greats, exploring the landscapes, places and people that have inspired some of our greatest writers, poets and storytellers.

Sandi’s literary journey will take her right across the island of Ireland – from the Mourne Mountains beloved by C.S. Lewis and Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy, to the Abbey Theatre, Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI), Sweney’s Pharmacy and the James Joyce Centre in Dublin, as well as to Yeats’ grave at Drumcliffe, the Patrick Kavanagh Centre and the Maria Edgeworth Centre. Along the way, she will meet with contemporary writers, poets and performers to explore how Ireland’s rich storytelling traditions continue to thrive and evolve today.

Aidan Power, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Marketing, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sandi Toksvig to the island of Ireland, to film all about our greatest writers, poets and storytellers for her new series for Channel 4. Her journey will highlight our rich literary heritage, as well as our spectacular scenery, capturing viewers’ imaginations and inspiring them to come and explore the island of Ireland for themselves.”

Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of promotional activity, to encourage travellers in Britain, and elsewhere around the world, to put the island of Ireland on their holiday wish-list.
