Overseas golf journalists go head to head in friendly Ryder Cup-style challenge

Ireland’s superb golf offering to be highlighted to millions of golfers across the United States, Great Britain and Mainland Europe

With just one year to go until the Ryder Cup comes to Adare Manor, leading overseas golf journalists have been competing in a friendly Ryder Cup-style competition, called the ‘Writers’ Cup’, this week. The journalists – who have a combined audience of millions of readers and followers – are visiting as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

Eight US journalists have been going head to head with a team of eight journalists from Britain, Germany, France, Switzerland and Finland, testing their skills on some of our great courses, including Adare Manor and Ballyneety Golf Club, which will host the Ryder Cup and the Junior Ryder Cup respectively next year. The itinerary also included Limerick Golf Club, The Hawthorn by Galway Bay and Lahinch Golf Club, the host venue for the recent Walker Cup.

Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets & Partnerships, said: “Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market, so we were delighted to invite these leading golf journalists to compete in our fun Ryder Cup-style challenge and experience some of our top courses for themselves. The content they create and share with their millions of readers, listeners and followers across the US, Great Britain and Mainland Europe will highlight the fact that Ireland offers the complete package for golfers, with some of the very best golf in the world.

“Tourism Ireland is taking every opportunity to highlight the fact that Adare Manor will host the Ryder Cup in 2027. We know that the combination of our world-class golf and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers from our key overseas markets.”
