Northern Ireland’s shared history and culture showcased to international travel professionals and media
International travel journalists, together with representatives of US tour operators and universities, are discovering Northern Ireland’s peace and reconciliation journey this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland.
The itineraries include Hillsborough Castle, Crumlin Road Gaol, The Troubles & Beyond Exhibition at the Ulster Museum, Linen Hall Library Political Collection, as well as visits to the various exhibitions and museums throughout Belfast and Derry-Londonderry. The aim is to highlight the breadth of attractions and experiences available here for overseas visitors who wish to explore our shared history and culture.
The travel journalists – who are from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Canada – write for daily newspapers and online travel magazines with a combined reach of more than 2.6 million readers. The US university representatives and tour operators specialise in group educational travel for university alumni.
Etta Austin, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Stakeholder Engagement for Northern Ireland, said:“Northern Ireland has a compelling story to share, shaped by its shared history, culture and journey towards peace. We are delighted to welcome international travel journalists, university representatives and tour operators this week, to learn more about the destination for themselves. Tourism Ireland is working hard to showcase the wide range of attractions and experiences on offer right across Northern Ireland, helping to inspire visitors in our key markets of Mainland Europe and the US to plan and book future trips here.”
