Keeping it ‘reel’ for St Patrick’s Day celebrations in London!

Tourism Ireland wows passers-by with green kinetic dance floor in London’s South Bank

Tourism Ireland is kicking off today’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations with a pop-up green dance floor publicity stunt in South Bank in central London. Professional Irish dancers are performing on the dance floor and passers-by are being invited to join in. It’s a special kinetic dance floor – powered by the dancers’ footsteps – so it’s green in both colour and in energy efficiency!

The energy generated from the dance floor is also powering a large screen which features stunning images of the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland’s aim is to bring a smile to the faces of Londoners and to convey the message that the island of Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun. Broadcast journalists and influencers have also been invited to attend – bringing the story about Ireland, our rich culture and Irish dancing to a wider audience across Britain.

Judith Cassidy, Tourism Ireland’s Acting Head of Great Britain, said: “We’re kicking off today’s St Patrick’s Day promotions with our fun green dance floor in London’s South Bank. Our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of Londoners and to spread the message that the island of Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun – and to showcase our rich culture and Irish dancing.

“Our St Patrick’s Day programme includes an extensive and targeted programme of travel trade, media and consumer activity to rebuild overseas tourism this year. We are taking every opportunity to capitalise on Ireland’s heightened profile around this St Patrick’s Day period.”

St Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the real start of the tourism season and is a unique opportunity for overseas tourism to the island of Ireland. Tourism Ireland is rolling out a major programme of travel trade, media and consumer activity around the world to leverage that opportunity.
