Italian travel journalists sample a ‘taste’ of the Wild Atlantic Way
1.7 million Italians to read about Ireland
Six travel and lifestyle journalists from Italy, with a combined reach of around 1.7 million readers, have been exploring the Wild Atlantic Way this week, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
The journalists, who represent various print and online publications, are experiencing the superb food and drink of the Wild Atlantic Way first-hand – and then creating articles and stories to inspire potential Italian holidaymakers to book their next trip to Ireland.
The group’s itinerary began in Galway, with a walking food tour. The journalists enjoyed a coastal walk and tasting tour with Mungo Murphy’s Seaweed Co. and had the chance to view the World Oyster Opening Championship at the Galway International Oyster Festival. In County Clare, they did a Burren Gold Cheese tasting at the Aillwee Burren Experience and visited the Burren Smokehouse, Cliffs of Moher and Hazel Mountain Chocolate.
Marcella Ercolini, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Italy, said:“Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of influential Italian journalists to the Wild Atlantic Way, to give them the opportunity to experience first-hand the fantastic local produce and culinary experiences this part of Ireland has to offer. Their articles and stories will help showcase our vibrant food and drink scene to their audiences in Italy and, importantly, inspire more Italian holidaymakers to come and experience it for themselves.”
