Italian journalists explore Northern Ireland on inaugural Rome-Belfast easyJet flight
Direct flight from Italian capital creates new opportunities for tourism growth for Northern Ireland
Five Italian travel journalists touched down in Northern Ireland on the inaugural easyJet flight from Rome to Belfast, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland.
The visiting media write for various Italian newspapers and magazines with a combined audience of around 1.2 million readers. The articles they produce will shine a spotlight on Northern Ireland for Italian holidaymakers and inspire future travel from Rome through Belfast International Airport.
The journalists’ itinerary included Titanic Belfast and the SS Nomadic, as well as St George’s Market, Belfast City Hall, Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens and Queen’s University. Beyond the city, the group explored the Causeway Coastal Route, with stops at Glenarm Castle, Dunluce Castle, The Courthouse Shared Space Creative Hub in Bushmills and the Giant’s Causeway. A visit to Game of Thrones Studio Tour completed their visit.
Marcella Ercolini, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Italy, said: “We were delighted to invite these influential travel journalists to Northern Ireland on the inaugural easyJet flight from Rome to Belfast. Direct connectivity is essential for tourism growth and this new route makes it easier than ever for Italian holidaymakers to discover everything Northern Ireland has to offer. We look forward to working with easyJet to help drive demand for this service and inspire more Italians to choose Northern Ireland for their next holiday or short break.”
