German travel writers sample the flavours of Cork
2.5 million Germans read all about Cork’s superb culinary offering
Six travel journalists from Germany, representing various print and online publications, have been exploring Cork and our superb culinary offering, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.
The journalists – who have a combined reach of 2.5 million people across Germany – arrived on the direct Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Cork. As well as highlighting ease of access for German holidaymakers to Cork, the aim of this visit was to shine a spotlight on Cork’s superb culinary offering and the many great things to see and do, through the articles and content the visiting journalists will write and share.
Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Germany, said:“Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of German travel journalists to visit Cork. There really is no better way to showcase Ireland’s unique appeal – especially Cork’s vibrant food scene – than by experiencing it at first-hand. Through the articles and content they create and share, the journalists will inspire their audiences to come and experience Cork, Ireland and our superb culinary offering for themselves.”
The group’s action-packed itinerary included a Hysterical Histories walking tour, a walking food tour in Cork city with Fab Food Trails, a visit to the Marina Market and guided tours of Elizabeth Fort and Rebel City Distillery. They enjoyed a ‘Foraging and Coastal’ tour with Kinsale Food Tours, guided tours of Kinsale Mead Co. and Clonakilty Blackpudding Visitor Centre, a visit to Skibbereen Farmers Market, as well as a demonstration and tasting at Woodcock Smokery. The journalists also attended the Ballymaloe Festival of Food at Ballymaloe House, where they participated in an oyster workshop with Oysome.
