From Viking trails to castle tales: Austrian travel journalists discover the stories of Ireland’s Ancient East

Millions of Austrians to read all about Ireland’s Ancient East

Six travel journalists from Austria, representing various print and online publications – with a combined audience of 3.4 million people – have been exploring Ireland and our ancient castles and Viking history, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The group has been following an action-packed itinerary to discover some of the many fantastic activities and experiences that Ireland’s Ancient East has to offer, including a boat trip on the River Nore through Kilkenny, a guided tour of Kilkenny Castle and a visit to Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny. In Waterford, they visited Lismore Castle Gardens and Mount Congreve Gardens and enjoyed a guided walking tour of the Viking Triangle. The journalists also visited Hook Lighthouse and the Irish National Heritage Park in Wexford.

Aubrey Irwin, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Austria and Switzerland, said: “We were delighted to invite this group of Austrian travel journalists to explore Ireland’s Ancient East. There really is no substitute for being able to come and experience what Ireland has to offer at first-hand. Through the articles and content they create and share, the journalists will inspire their audiences to come and experience Ireland, our beautiful scenery and ancient castles for themselves.”
