Social media competition winners experience Westeros and more!

The winners of Tourism Ireland’s Games of Thrones Facebook competition were in Northern Ireland this week, to attend the opening night of the Game of Thrones artefacts exhibition in Belfast and to experience a Games of Thrones film location tour around the Causeway Coast and Glens.

Following an itinerary devised by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the competition winners – from Germany, France and GB – travelled along the Causeway Coastal Route, stopping at various Games of Thrones film locations at Cushendun, Ballintoy, Larrybane, the Giant’s Causeway and the Dark Hedges near Ballymoney. The lucky group also enjoyed a tour of the Titanic Studios in Belfast, courtesy of Northern Ireland Screen.

To coincide with the long-awaited fourth season of the series, Tourism Ireland’s 11-week social media campaign has been promoting Northern Ireland to Game of Thrones fans across the world – in Great Britain, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Scandinavia – leveraging the incredible success of the HBO brand and the huge global popularity of the series.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “We are delighted  to bring the winners of our Game of Thrones Facebook competition to Northern Ireland this week so they can immerse themselves in Northern Ireland’s strong associations with the phenomenally popular series and visit the exhibition and some of actual locations. TV and film play an important role in influencing prospective visitors and Game of Thrones presents a fantastic opportunity to highlight Northern Ireland as a ‘must see’ place to fans of the series across the world.”
