Top European and GB travel and lifestyle journalists spent time ‘contemplating’ the FLAGS installation by Hans Peter Kuhn during a recent visit to the Giant’s Causeway. The journalists – from Great Britain, Spain and Belgium – were invited here by Tourism Ireland, in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, and represented Belgian publications Grande
travel magazine and Weekend Knack
magazine; Guia de Ocio
, a Spanish travel guide; and regional newspaper titles in Kent, Hull, Devon and Cornwall.
As well as visiting the Giant’s Causeway and the FLAGS installation, commissioned by the London 2012 Festival and comprising a series of flags embedded in the dramatic landscape of the Giant's Causeway, the group also visited the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and the walled gardens of Glenarm Castle. The final day of their visit took them to Londonderry, where they enjoyed a walking tour of the historic walls.
Finola O’Mahony, Tourism Ireland’s head of Europe, said: “Media visits such as this are extremely important, helping to build awareness of what’s on offer in Northern Ireland for potential holidaymakers. Tourism Ireland has an extremely busy programme of promotions under way across the world, highlighting all that is happening in Northern Ireland during 2012 and beyond. These journalists have had the opportunity to see some of that at first-hand, helping to reinforce our message that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland.”
