Taking place at a glittering gala in Sardinia, Italy, the red-carpet event marked the 32nd year of the awards ceremony.

Established in 1993 to "acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries", the World Travel Awards are a staple in the industry's calendar and set the standard for excellence in travel and tourism.

As well as awarding the finest businesses on the island of Ireland, the ceremony also spotlighted the Irish establishments that have shone through on a European scale.

Not only is Ireland home to Europe's leading distillery tour and leading academic tourist attraction, but it has Europe's leading luxury wedding resort to its name.
