One of the largest cultural events in Europe, the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann (known as the Fleadh) will welcome around 800,000 visitors to the city for eight days of traditional music, culture and celebration. A landmark moment, as Belfast hosts the event for the first time from 2-9 August 2026.

The Fleadh will transform Belfast into a city-wide stage, with over 200 events planned across venues and local neighbourhoods, spanning music, dance and cultural activity, as well as All-Ireland competitions and concerts.

Tap into the energy of this vibrant city as the world-famous festival lands on the banks of the Lagan. Discover lively pub sessions, spontaneous street performances and dramatic stage shows in Ireland’s only UNESCO City of Music. From big-name acts to emerging talent, it’ll all be here as you wander through waves of music and movement, culture and craic. Whether you’re a devoted follower of trad or a wide-eyed first timer, experience the world’s biggest celebration of Irish music, song, language and dance.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Belfast City Hall, the Gig Rig is where the magic of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann comes alive for everyone. Running free from 11am to 11pm daily throughout the festival, this is the main outdoor stage - no ticket, no booking, just brilliant live music in the heart of the city.

Highlights from the programme include the opening event on 2 August, featuring the specially commissioned Sharing Traditions showcase, which will bring together traditional Irish musicians with Dhol drummers, Indian dancers, flute and pipe bands, and Highland dancers in a celebration of Belfast's shared identity. Traditional music icon Sharon Shannon and her Big Band will also perform as part of the opening night.

Throughout the week, audiences can enjoy performances from acclaimed acts including Lúnasa, Sí Fiddlers and a special multicultural collaboration, Connections, directed by Belfast composer Neil Martin and featuring musicians and dancers from diverse cultural traditions. The programme will also celebrate Ulster-Scots and Unionist heritage through a vibrant Ulster Bands showcase at Titanic Slipways.

The festival will conclude on 9 August with a special performance from Northern Ireland singer-songwriter Foy Vance, alongside the newly crowned winners of the prestigious Senior Céilí Band Competition, widely regarded as the pinnacle contest of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and a launchpad for some of traditional music's biggest names.

With concerts, céilís and community showcases, enjoy 8 days of culture and craic. All‑Ireland level competitions are at the heart of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. With over 180 categories, the Fleadh brings together the very best in traditional music, song, dance, and language. From fiddle to flute and sean‑nós singing to céilí dancing, these pinnacle finals represent the highest standard of traditional arts. Every note, every step, every voice carries a story and creates a champion.
