Enjoy sumptuous sustainable hospitality at room2 Belfast

Northern Ireland’s first hometel has opened in Belfast offering home comforts, hotel extras and a planet-friendly environment.

room2, Belfast cityBelfast’s choice of accommodation for eco-conscious travellers recently expanded with the opening of a room2 hometel. room2 Belfast is dedicated to creating environments that have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of visitors as well as operating on a low carbon, low energy and zero waste basis.

The building is powered by electricity with some renewable energy generated through the PV panels on the roof and the rest purchased from renewable sources like solar, hydro and wind offsite.

All waste is recycled or turned into energy, ultra-low-flow showers give the full impact of a power shower but with around 40% less water, and low-energy lights and appliances are used throughout. All this has won room2 Belfast a gold rating by Green Tourism, an internationally acknowledged certification.

The hometel also celebrates the best of local creative talent and displays eco-conscious yet striking design from innovative artists and producers. Among the artists who have contributed to the building’s décor is illustrator Jamie Beard. He was commissioned to create a special design within the wardrobes in the bedrooms based on Irish mythology.

Winnie's Bar, room2, Belfast cityRebecca O'Doherty created a mural for the backdrop of the reception while Alana McDowell’s freehand murals feature in several of the bedrooms. An art gallery in the hometel showcases more work by local artists.

Guests can choose from several different types of rooms ranging from low-noise windowless to studios with a kitchenette, family loft rooms and spacious suites.

room2 Belfast is situated in the city centre within easy reach of Belfast’s main attractions and nightlife hotspots. The city hall is a short walk away as are the main shopping areas – Castle Court and Victoria Square – and Belfast’s award-winning St George’s Market.

Titanic Belfast, the city’s multi-award-winning attraction that brilliantly tells the story of the tragic liner, is just over the river. A short taxi ride will take you there or why not stroll down the Maritime Mile to reach it, stopping to view the Glass of Thrones trail and modern sculptures along the way.

For a lively evening, head to the buzzing Cathedral Quarter where pubs and restaurants abound. Or catch a show in the Grand Opera House or the MAC, or a live music or comedy event in one of the city’s many other entertainment venues.
