Wednesday the Hit Netflix Series Filmed in Ireland
The mystery show was shot in various locations around Counties Wicklow, Dublin and Offaly, with co-showrunners and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar call the filming locations “truly magical” and the perfect backdrop for the series.
“It adds a sense of timeless beauty, wonder, and epic spectacle to the world of Wednesday,” they explain. “It’s no coincidence that Dracula author Bram Stoker hailed from Dublin, and his stories were inspired by the stories of Irish folklore.”
Dramatic landscapes of Ireland can be seen on screen throughout in the series, including Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry, with its stunning waterfall and gardens that have featured many times on screen including Vikings and Disenchanted. The gothic Charleville Castle in County Offaly makes an appearance also. Home of the King Oak, it was also seen on screens in Becoming Jane and The Tudors. Whilst the atmospheric Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin, which provides another backdrop to the series, is also the final resting place of noted Irish people including former Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Seán Lemass and singer Sinéad O’Connor.
“Wednesday, Season 1, was a table setter, but there’s still so much of the world left to see. It’s been exciting to expand the scope and the vision of the show this season,” executive producer Alfred Gough said. Fellow co-creator and co-showrunner Miles Millar agreed, saying, “We have a broader canvas and more toys to play with. The world of Nevermore is much expanded — and we had a great time doing it.”
Jenna Ortega leads the cast as the titular supernatural detective, Wednesday Addams, alongside regular cast members Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley) Catherine Zeta Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax), Dorobantu (Thing), and Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin).
New series regulars include Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper and appearances from Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley and Thandiwe Newton. “Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore,” said Millar and Gough.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” said Gough and Millar.
The eerie world of Wednesday comes from Tim Burton, who continues his role as director and executive producer in Season 2. MGM Television is the studio behind Wednesday.
