Ireland proves a hit with stars of ‘Wednesday’
Ireland’s magical landscape provides the perfect backdrop for the highly anticipated Season 2, Part 1 of Wednesday, which premiered on Netflix (6 August) to audiences across the world.
Season 2 of the mystery show was shot at various locations around counties Wicklow, Dublin and Offaly. Executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar called the filming locations “truly magical” – a fitting tribute to settings that include Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry, Charleville Castle in County Offaly and Trinity College Dublin and Dublin’s atmospheric Deansgrange Cemetery.
“There is a spirit in Ireland which very much embraces the whole of this ‘Wednesday’ shoot.” Joanna Lumley.
Joanna Lumley, who plays Wednesday’s grandmother Hester, believed it was the perfect location for the show: “This slightly surreal, unreal, quality, sits very well on Irish shoulders.” Miles Millar agreeing that the backdrop it made it “more Tim Burton-ish.”

The stunning Powerscourt Demesne provided a backdrop for a number of filming locations, including the Estate as Hester’s House, and the dramatic Powerscourt Waterfall as ‘Camp Jericho’ in the series. Other locations included the gothic style Charleville Castle which has previously featured in Becoming Jane and The Green Knight and doubles as part of Nevermore in the series.
Commenting on filming here, Executive Producer Miles Millar said: “Coming back to Ireland to shoot season two felt like a homecoming – we have beautiful castles, we have the lush greens.”
Luis Guzmán, who plays Gomez Addams in Wednesday, added: “The landscape here is sensational, so beautiful, so nostalgic.”

Jenna Ortega also enjoyed the experience filming in Ireland, saying: “I’ve kind of done my best to see as much of Ireland as I could while I was here,” and adding that her favourite thing was “just how kind” Irish people were.
Throughout Ireland there are rolling fields, historic castles and estates and ancient ruins of forts. History is steeped into the landscape and culture, from Viking settlements to monastic sites.
