Autumn ushers in Dublin’s acclaimed Theatre Festival
At the heart of the festival is the city of Dublin – its people and its stories – and a commitment to contributing to the vibrant social and cultural life of our capital. Their mission is to present a programme of exceptional theatrical experiences that will appeal to the diverse communities and visitors that make up our city.
The festival presents theatre, dance, opera, walking tours, critical events and talks every autumn. You can enjoy the festival in established theatres as well as site specific venues.
A fixture on the city’s calendar since 1957, the annual Dublin Theatre Festival is one of Europe’s premier theatre events and enjoys a wonderful reputation worldwide. The invariably huge attendances at the festival events are drawn not only from the city’s citizens but the many international visitors who attend annually.
This is a big event – expect over 350 performances from many countries in some 20+ venues – and a broad one, encompassing everything from theatre, music, dance and family events to artist talks, public discussions and artist development programmes. The festival makes a point of bringing the best available theatre from around the world to Dublin and balancing the international programme with Irish productions, especially new plays.
