Northern Ireland golf goes virtual

~ Northern Ireland golf and tourism operators join Tourism Ireland at virtual PGA Golf Show in the US ~

Fifteen (15) golf and tourism operators from Northern Ireland are joining Tourism Ireland this week for a virtual golf promotion in the United States. The PGA Golf Merchandise Show – which kicks off today (26 January) – is traditionally one of the biggest golf exhibitions in the US, attracting around 40,000 golf professionals and journalists.

This year, because of COVID-19, the PGA Show will take place as an online event for the first time ever. Tourism Ireland – together with Tourism NI and Fáilte Ireland – will host a Golf Ireland booth at the show. The event involves a programme of bespoke one-to-one appointments – with the Northern Ireland operators meeting influential US golf professionals and journalists.

“The format of virtual one-to-one appointments provides a good opportunity for our golf partners from Northern Ireland to connect with influential US golf professionals and journalists,” said Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America. “Our message is that, when the time is right, we will have everything ready to welcome American golfers. We’ll be assuring them that tourism companies and golf clubs in Northern Ireland and across the island of Ireland have been implementing all the required new health and safety measures – but will still be ready to deliver a fantastic golfing and vacation experience.”

Tourism Ireland, together with its tourism industry partners from around the island of Ireland, will participate in 26 virtual trade promotions in the first three months of 2021 – meeting, and doing business with, around 5,700 international travel trade contacts. As well as this week’s PGA Merchandise Show, these virtual promotions will include ITB Berlin NOW, a Northern European workshop and virtual sales missions to the GCC, Austria and Switzerland.
