Tourism Ireland fought off tough competition to secure a major win at the international World Routes Awards, taking the ‘Best Destination’ award. The awards have been running for 25 years and recognise excellence in airport and route development marketing. The winners are decided by the votes of international airlines.
Commenting on the award, Louise Finnegan, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Business Partnership, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to have topped the ‘Best Destination’ category at the World Routes Awards 2019. The awards recognise the great partnerships we have developed with airports across the island of Ireland and how we work to support their route development efforts.
“Tourism Ireland has long recognised the importance of connectivity and has developed close working relations with airports on the island of Ireland and commercial partnerships with the airlines flying into them. Our teams work closely with all of our aviation partners on providing insights and data, co-operative campaigns and access to marketing channels. As an island, the importance of frequent, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”
