Food Glorious Food!

~ Tourism Ireland urges visitors to London’s Borough Market to ‘Taste the Greatness of Northern Ireland’ ~

Visitors to London’s popular Borough Market are enjoying some delicious Northern Ireland food and drink this week. A pop-up showcase in the market, featuring around 23 producers from Northern Ireland, kicked off yesterday (13 March) – organised by Food NI, Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.  

Timed to coincide with Tourism Ireland’s busy week of St Patrick’s Day promotions in GB, the ‘Taste the Greatness of Northern Ireland’ showcase will run until 23 March. It’s part of Tourism Ireland’s programme of activity to highlight Northern Ireland in GB and, in particular, to raise awareness of Northern Ireland as a destination for some of the best food, drink and hospitality on offer for visitors anywhere. 

Producers taking part include Lacada Brewery, Mash Direct, Shortcross Gin, Rooney Fish and Glens of Antrim Crisps. Chef Paula McIntyre is doing cookery demos, using the Northern Ireland produce on sale at the pop-up; and Mark Douglas (AKA the Krazi Baker) is making traditional breads from scratch, on a griddle with a dollop of our local butter!

To support the pop-up in the Borough Market, Tourism Ireland has arranged for two articles to appear in Time Out magazine in London this month – all about Northern Ireland’s passionate food producers. Around 309,000 people will read about producers like the Krazi Baker, Ke Nato Biltong’s organically reared beef and Indie Fude, Northern Ireland’s first cheese collective.

It’s really great to have so many top producers together in one place, helping us to spread the word about Northern Ireland’s superb food, wonderful chefs and world-class restaurants and, of course, what makes a holiday in Northern Ireland unique and truly memorable. Our message is that Northern Ireland is a superb choice for ‘foodies’ for a holiday or long weekend break.”
