Clare man turns Copenhagen landmark hotel green

Radisson Collection Royal Hotel in Copenhagen joins Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening

A landmark hotel in Copenhagen – the Radisson Collection Royal – was illuminated in green on St Patrick’s Day, as part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative, thanks to the hotel’s general manager, Brian Gleeson. Brian was born in Rathborne, Co Limerick, and grew up in Clonlara, Co Clare. He is now the General Manager of the five star Radisson Collection Royal, perhaps Scandinavia’s most iconic hotel and one of the most recognised landmarks in Copenhagen.

Aileen Hickey, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic Region, said: “Thank you to Brian Gleeson for lighting up the Radisson Collection Royal in green on our national day once again this year. This was the tenth year of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative and it was bigger and better than ever. St Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the real start of the tourism season for us; our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of people here in Denmark, and elsewhere around the world, and to convey the message that Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun, as well as wonderful scenery and heritage. We took every opportunity to capitalise on Ireland’s heightened profile over the weekend; the saturation coverage about the island of Ireland across the global airwaves, in newspapers and digital media, is an invaluable boost for our overall 2019 tourism promotional drive.”

Brian Gleeson, General Manager of the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel, said: “Anyone who has ever lived and worked overseas understands only too well the importance of your roots and of spreading the message of home and everything that Ireland has to offer. We’re an incredibly patriotic country, so greening the Royal is the least I can do to share the love from home over here in Copenhagen.”

Tourism Ireland has a busy programme of promotional activity under way in the Nordic region this spring, to continue to grow visitor numbers to the island of Ireland. Activity includes Tourism Ireland’s new ‘Fill Your Heart with Ireland’ ads running on Facebook, until the end of June. Co-operative promotions with key partners are also under way – including promotions with Ticket, one of the largest travel agency chains in the Nordic region.
