~ Tourism Ireland teams up with ‘Passport to the World’ travel film series ~
A new Ireland documentary, called Ireland: Emerald Island – Passport to the World, will screen in 24 cinemas across Canada this evening (15 April).
Tourism Ireland teamed up with a popular Canadian travel film series, called Passport to the World, to highlight the island of Ireland to Canadian travellers. Passport to the World is a popular travel film series that showcases both famous and off-the-beaten-path destinations. The films play on cinema screens across Canada, with movie-goers and travellers treated to some wonderful destinations around the world.
In spring 2018, the Passport to the World team approached Tourism Ireland with an idea to create a documentary that would be much like a guide-book, but as an experience for the big screen, with images and sound. A crew from Passport to the World filmed in Ireland last year – and the Ireland documentary was born!
Tourism Ireland invited influential Canadian travel professionals and journalists to attend the advance screening of the documentary.
Dana Welch, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Canada, said: “We were delighted to invite Passport to the World to film around the island of Ireland. The documentary will be seen by countless people across Canada – helping us to spread the word among Canadian travellers about the many things to see and do on a vacation in Ireland. It will allow viewers to see Ireland for the price of a movie ticket – and inspire them to plan their trip and check out the destination for themselves.”
Jadrino Huot, CEO of the Passport to the World travel movie series, said: "Ireland enjoys a rich and incomparable heritage with solid traditions from its Celtic culture, making it a must-see destination for all travellers. This film represents a comprehensive visual guide that will help you plan your own journey, relive good memories or simply taste by proxy all the splendours Ireland has to offer."
Brad LaDouceur, Vice President of Event Cinema, Cineplex, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring the beauty of the Emerald Isle to Canadian theatres. Irish-Canadians make up 15 per cent of the North American population, weaving their Celtic heritage and traditions into our diverse cultural tapestry. Cineplex Events’ Travel Series invites audiences to experience this rich culture first hand from the comfort of their local theatre.”
