Sales blitz to boost American tourist numbers to Ireland

Tourism Ireland’s 2017 ‘Jump into Ireland’ series continues to Austin, Chicago and Boston

Tourism Ireland’s ‘Jump into Ireland’ sales blitz in the United States kicks off today (Tuesday, 11 April), taking in the cities of Austin (Texas), Chicago (Illinois) and Boston (Massachusetts).

Over the coming days, Tourism Ireland – together with a delegation of 12 Irish tourism companies – will meet travel professionals based in Austin, Chicago and Boston. The busy schedule involves a 60-minute TV show format highlighting the island of Ireland, as well as networking sessions with travel and lifestyle journalists – providing an excellent platform to showcase and sell Ireland to important travel decision-makers in each city.

This is the second stage of the 2017 series of ‘Jump into Ireland’ (JITI) sales blitzes; in all, the ‘Jump into Ireland’ programme will visit nine different cities in the US this year, targeting hundreds of influential travel agents and travel writers.

Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: “Tourism Ireland has prioritised North America for 2017, as a market which offers a strong return on investment, in terms of holiday visitors and expenditure. A number of factors are working in our favour, including more airline seats than ever before, from 20 gateway cities across North America to the island of Ireland, with numerous new flights and expanded services in the pipeline for this year.

“We have a very clear focus for the year ahead and that is to deliver a +6% increase in visitor numbers and +9% increase in revenue from North America. We will achieve this by working in close collaboration with our tourism partners, in both the US and Ireland, rolling out an extensive programme of high impact campaigns and promotions which will target those consumers with greatest potential to travel to Ireland. Our ‘Jump into Ireland’ sales blitz this week provides an excellent platform to spread the word about the many great things to see and do right around the island of Ireland.”

Similar ‘Jump into Ireland’ events will take place in San Diego and San Francisco (California) and in Houston (Texas), in November.
