Tourism Ireland invites Vagabrothers to create online films to showcase Northern Ireland
Tourism Ireland has enlisted the help of popular travel vloggers (or video bloggers) the Vagabrothers, to showcase some of our top visitor attractions and experiences.
The Vagabrothers are brothers Marko and Alex Ayling from California, who describe themselves as “brothers, backpackers and video bloggers on a mission to explore the world through its people”
. They began creating travel videos after they won a ‘Biggest, Baddest Bucket List’ travel video competition, run by global travel website Mydestination.com, in 2014.
Tourism Ireland has commissioned the brothers to create a series of videos to highlight Northern Ireland to prospective visitors around the world. They’ve been travelling around Northern Ireland over the past five days. Their itinerary – designed by Tourism NI – included Londonderry and a walk along the city’s historic walls; a drive along the Causeway Coastal route, with stops at Harry’s Shack in Portstewart, the Giant’s Causeway and the Old Bushmills Distillery; as well as a visit to Michael Scullion, of Scullion Hurls in Loughguile. The brothers also spent time in Belfast, where they sampled some of our superb food at St George’s Market. Their final stop was a Game of Thrones
experience at Castle Ward, where they enjoyed an archery lesson and the opportunity to see several nearby Game of Thrones
The films will be shared by the brothers this autumn on YouTube
(they have almost 128,000 subscribers). Marko and Alex have also been sharing details of their trip with their 35,100 followers on Instagram
, 25,500 fans on Facebook
and their 10,600 Twitter followers (@vagabrothers
Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland – and visits by journalists and social influencers like bloggers and vloggers are a key element of that programme.
Brian Twomey, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Marketing Communications, said: “The Vagabrothers have been documenting their entire visit online and will be releasing six vlogs, which will be seen and shared by their online followers round the world – inspiring those followers and travellers to come and sample the destination for themselves. Their social media accounts are hugely popular, so their visit is a really good opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland.”
