Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes the announcement by Lufthansa of its new flight from Frankfurt to Shannon for summer 2017. The new service will operate every Saturday, beginning 29th April. Working closely with airlines to build demand for routes is a key priority for Tourism Ireland and this new service will certainly provide a welcome boost for tourism from the all-important German market to Co Clare and the West of Ireland.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes the announcement by Lufthansa of a new flight from Frankfurt to Shannon, which will certainly expand travel options for German holidaymakers wishing to visit the Wild Atlantic Way and the West of Ireland next summer. We look forward to working closely with Lufthansa and Shannon Airport to maximise the promotion of this new route and to help drive demand for the flight. As an island destination, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”
Germany is our third-largest source of visitors and 2016 looks set to be another record year for German visitors to Ireland, with the latest CSO figures showing growth of almost +5% for January to September.
