Sales blitz to the west coast of the United States to boost tourist numbers to Ireland in 2017

Tourism Ireland, together with a delegation of 19 tourism enterprises, is undertaking a three-city trade and media blitz to the west coast of the United States this week. 

Thirteen (13) Irish tourism companies and six American tour operators will meet influential travel agents and tour operators in the key cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle, kick-starting Tourism Ireland’s promotional effort for 2017 in this important tourism market.

California is now the second largest and fast-growing market within the United States for tourism to the island of Ireland. And, this week’s sales blitz coincides with the announcement by Aer Lingus that its Los Angeles-Dublin flight will become a daily service for summer 2017. This is in addition to the Aer Lingus San Francisco-Dublin flight and Ethiopian Airlines’ service from Los Angeles. So, this week’s ‘Jump into Ireland’ events are also an ideal opportunity to remind the American travel professionals that it’s now easier than ever before to get to the island of Ireland from the west coast of the US.

Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said:  “2016 looks set to be another record-breaking year for Irish tourism from North America, with the latest CSO figures showing almost 1.4 million arrivals from the United States and Canada during the January to September period this year – an increase of +15.4% when compared to the same nine-month period in 2015. Our ‘Jump into Ireland’ sales blitz to San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle this week provides an excellent platform to kick-start our promotional effort for 2017 and to spread the word about the many great things to see and do right around the island of Ireland.” 

The ‘Jump into Ireland’ schedule includes a B2B event in each of the three cities, showcasing the island of Ireland via a special travel TV show format to the influential American travel professionals in attendance. Each event also includes an opportunity for networking with influential travel and lifestyle journalists.

This is the last of Tourism Ireland’s ‘Jump into Ireland’ (JITI) events for 2016. Previous JITI events this year have visited Chicago, Boston and New York, in March; Phoenix (Arizona), in May; and Sarasota (Florida), in August.
