Ireland has been named a ‘best destination in Europe’, at an awards ceremony in China this week.
The awards were organised by World Traveller Media, an information platform for Chinese travellers with its own travel magazine, TV, website and readers’ club. At the ceremony in Shanghai, Ireland was one of eight destinations listed in the “Best Destination Europe” category – in good company with Italy, France, Britain, Turkey, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Greece, to take the number one spot!
Accepting the award, James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s Manager China, said: “We are delighted that Ireland has been named a ‘best destination in Europe’ in China. Travellers nowadays have so much choice, which makes it more important than ever for us to ensure that the island of Ireland really stands out from other destinations – so this award is really good news as we prepare to kick off our busy promotional drive for 2017.
“Tourism Ireland has been working hard to build awareness of the island of Ireland in China. This year, we expect to welcome around 50,000 Chinese visitors – actually hitting the growth target we had set for 2017. This accolade from World Traveller Media will help to inspire Chinese holidaymakers to choose the island of Ireland; it also provides Tourism Ireland with another great hook to continue to promote Ireland as a ‘must see’ destination in 2017.”
The World Traveller Media magazine is distributed nationwide, with a circulation of some 357,000 readers. The awards for the various categories are decided upon by readers’ votes and a judging panel.
Tourism Ireland has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. As well as working closely with Chinese media, the organisation also undertakes co-operative promotions with key partners – including airlines and the travel trade.
