Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, was in Boston last week, as part of a ‘Promote Ireland’ programme around St Patrick’s Day. During her visit, Minister Humphreys met Tourism Ireland representatives and heard about the busy programme of promotional activity under way this year, to boost tourism from the United States to the island of Ireland.
Tourism Ireland’s St Patrick’s 2016 programme spanned Great Britain, Mainland Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as emerging tourism markets like China, India, the Middle East and South Africa. More than 200 landmark buildings and iconic sites around the world went green to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: “We are delighted that Minister Humphreys was with us in Boston for the important St Patrick’s period, to help us deliver the message about the many great reasons to visit the island of Ireland this year. St Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the real start of the tourism season for us; our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of people everywhere and to convey the message that Ireland offers the warmest of welcomes and great fun, as well as wonderful scenery and heritage.”
