21 January 2016 – Tourism Ireland in Germany kicked off its busy programme of promotions for 2016 this week – with a strong presence at CMT (Caravan, Motor & Tourism Fair) in Stuttgart. Tourism Ireland is joined at CMT by 12 tourism businesses from the island of Ireland.
The nine-day travel fair attracted more than 241,000 visitors in 2015 – among them leading travel writers, tour operators and travel agents, as well as many thousands of German holidaymakers looking for ideas and suggestions for their next holiday. This year, a brand new Samsung headset was a special attraction for visitors to the Ireland stand – showcasing stunning 360° photos from around the island of Ireland, to entice them to put Ireland on their holiday ‘wish-list’ for 2016.
Zoë Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “CMT in Stuttgart is our first major promotion of 2016 in Germany, providing an excellent opportunity to spread the word about the many great things to see and do in Ireland and to raise awareness about the exciting programme of events taking place this year, including Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink.”
Promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route will continue to be a major focus of Tourism Ireland’s activity in Germany, and elsewhere around the world, in 2016. The organisation will highlight Dublin and Belfast and will unveil Ireland’s Ancient East, as well as Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink.
Zoë Redmond continued: “2015 was the best year ever for German visitor numbers to Ireland with the most recent CSO figures showing an increase of +16% for September to November. Tourism Ireland will roll out an extensive programme of promotional activity throughout 2016 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth.”
