Golf in Ireland was in the spotlight last weekend, at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.
Tourism Ireland – together with partners – had a presence at the high profile tournament, in a bid to grow the number of golf holidaymakers from the United States to Ireland. Golf is a major focus for Tourism Ireland in the US and the organisation has a busy programme of promotions under way throughout 2015.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s head of North America, said: “The American golf market remains a priority for Tourism Ireland. The island of Ireland boasts some outstanding golf courses and our presence at this year’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial provided another excellent opportunity for Tourism Ireland, together with our partners, to showcase that superb golf offering to thousands of American golf enthusiasts. Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market and Tourism Ireland is working hard to drive home the message that a golfing holiday in Ireland is about much more than a round of 18 holes – the combination of our world-class golf and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting American golfers to visit.”
Tourism Ireland’s golf promotions in the United States this year include TV and online advertising on the hugely popular NBC Golf Channel, as well as on Golfchannel.com; a presence at other golf events, including the PGA Golf Merchandise show in Orlando; and email marketing to the golfchannel.com database (approximately 500,000 golf fans) and to the Tourism Ireland database (approximately 350,000 subscribers). Influential golf journalists have been invited by Tourism Ireland to come and sample our golf offering throughout 2015. Social media is also encouraging American golfers to come and play some of our great courses; golf-related posts on Tourism Ireland’s Facebook page in the US (900,000+ fans) have resulted in strong engagement with fans and lots of ‘likes’.
