Tourism Ireland congratulates Darren Clarke on being named Europe’s 2016 Ryder Cup captain

Congratulating Darren Clarke on being named captain of the Europe team for the Ryder Cup in 2016, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Congratulations to Darren Clarke on being named Europe’s new Ryder Cup captain. This is wonderful news indeed – with Darren following in the footsteps of one of our other great golf ambassadors, Paul McGinley, who captained the Europe team to victory in the 2014 Ryder Cup. This honour reminds golfers everywhere that the island of Ireland truly is the ‘Home of Champions’ – presenting Tourism Ireland with an invaluable opportunity to highlight the island of Ireland as a world-class golf destination to prospective golf holidaymakers around the world. We wish Darren every success as Europe’s new Ryder Cup captain.”

Tourism Ireland has an extensive programme of promotions under way to promote golf around the island of Ireland to potential golf visitors around the world – reminding potential golf visitors about the wonderful golf on offer here. Promotions are particularly highlighting the prestigious 2015 Irish Open, which takes place at Royal County Down in May. Golf is the world’s largest sports-related travel market and Tourism Ireland is working hard to drive home the message that a golfing holiday here is about much more than a round of 18 holes – the combination of Ireland’s world-class golf product and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers to come here.
