Dublin and Ireland at number five in ‘top summer destinations’ for American travellers – says Fly.com

Tourism Ireland welcomes news that Ireland makes top five in list of favourite international destinations for American travellers this summer

Dublin and Ireland are at number five in the list of “Top Summer Destinations” for American travellers – that’s according to research carried out recently by Fly.com, the popular airfare search engine owned by Travelzoo Inc.

Fly.com used data collected from more than five million user searches, conducted between 1 January and 19 March this year; and also extracted international flight bookings with travel dates between 1 June and 31 August 2014. The data shows that the favourite international destination this summer for Americans is Cancún, Mexico, followed by London, Paris and Rome – with Dublin and Ireland coming in at number five.

This news comes hot on the heels of a recent survey by TripAdvisor, which showed that Ireland is in the top three dream destinations for Americans. Welcoming the results of the Fly.com survey, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The results of this Fly.com survey are more good news, confirming our own research that Ireland is high on the wish-list for Americans as a dream vacation destination. Our strategy is to reach out to those people across the US who are well disposed towards Ireland – and get them to book that trip to Ireland now.

“2013 was a record year for American visitors to Ireland. Tourism Ireland in the US has an extensive programme of promotions under way throughout 2014, to keep the momentum going and build on that growth. We are spreading the word about the many great experiences that US holidaymakers can enjoy around the island of Ireland, including our newest tourist experience, the Wild Atlantic Way. We are also highlighting the many great festivals and events taking place in Ireland this year – including Limerick City of Culture and, of course, the Croke Park Classic, when the University of Central Florida takes on Penn State in their college football season opener next August.”
