4 million potential holidaymakers in six countries to read all about golf in the South West
Around four million people in six different countries – including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Austria and China – are set to read all about golf in the South West, following the recent visit of a group of influential golf and sports journalists, as guests of Tourism Ireland.
Representing a variety of online and print publications with a combined reach of around four million readers – or potential golf holidaymakers for Cork – the journalists were here to play in the Pro Am and then attend the Irish Open at Fota Island Resort, as well as to sample some of our world-class golf, including the Cork Golf Club at Little Island, the Old Head Golf Links in Kinsale and Waterville Golf Links.
Simon Gregory, Tourism Ireland’s director of markets, said: “We were delighted to invite this group of influential journalists to the South West, so they could experience for themselves the superb golf offering here. Fact-finding visits like this are a very important element of Tourism Ireland’s overall promotional effort; they are a really effective way for us to get positive exposure for Ireland through the media around the world. The publicity value of the articles these journalists will produce when they return home is fantastic – they will reach around four million golfers in six different countries.
“Golf is a major focus for Tourism Ireland in 2014. We are undertaking a busy programme of promotions, which has included highlighting the recent Irish Open at Fota Island Resort. Our message is that Ireland offers golfers the complete package – with top courses, stunning scenery and the warmest of welcomes.”
