Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Canadian airline Westjet of a new daily summer service between St John’s in Newfoundland and Dublin, beginning in June 2014 – which will certainly help boost tourism from Canada to the island of Ireland next year.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s announcement by Westjet of a new daily flight from Newfoundland to Dublin for summer 2014 is more good news for tourism to the island of Ireland. There are strong Diaspora links between Ireland and Newfoundland and we look forward to working with Westjet and Dublin Airport, to maximise the promotion of this new service. As an island destination, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights to Ireland cannot be overstated; we know there is a proven direct correlation between access to Ireland and growth in visitor numbers.”
With more than 4 million people throughout Canada claiming ancestral links or affiliations with the island of Ireland, Canada is an important market for tourism.
