It’s going to be ‘Glas Vegas’ once again on St Patrick’s Day 2014

Las Vegas delegation announces famous ‘Welcome’ sign to join Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening on 17 March 2014

A delegation from the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority flew to Dublin this week. They met with Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, today (Thursday 7 November), to announce that the famous ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign will once again join Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative on St Patrick’s Day in 2014.

The iconic sign took part in Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening for the first time in March of this year – when green bulbs were installed around the sign by the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. Next year will be the fifth year of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening, with a host of famous attractions and sites around the world set to come on board and light up in green to mark St Patrick’s Day.

Minister Michael Ring said: “It is great to hear that the famous ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign will go green again next March. 2013 has been an excellent year for Irish tourism and we are on track for record visitor numbers from North America. The St Patrick’s Day period traditionally marks the start of the Irish tourism season and Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative provides a wonderful opportunity to get the message out that there has never been a better time to visit Ireland for the value and quality on offer. It will be even easier for our North American visitors to get here, with more flights scheduled in 2014 so hopefully we can maintain the impressive growth levels next year and beyond.”

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority to Dublin and Ireland in this special year of The Gathering. We are particularly pleased that the famous ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign is coming on board again for Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening in 2014 – joining a host of other well-known sites and attractions in our celebrations around the world on 17 March, as we kick off our promotional campaigns to grow tourism from around the world in 2014.”

“We are pleased to be the first destination to partner with Tourism Ireland on the 2014 Global Greening initiative,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “By illuminating the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign in green, we are excited to play our part in helping to bring global recognition to such a wonderful programme.”

Tourism Ireland will unveil additional details about its St Patrick’s Global Greening initiative in early 2014.
