Tourism Ireland welcomes Flybe’s new route from Manchester to Waterford

Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes the announcement by Flybe of its new service from Manchester to Waterford, which will commence on 22 May. Working closely with airlines to build demand for routes is a key priority for Tourism Ireland and this new service will certainly provide a welcome boost for tourism from the all-important British market to Waterford and the South East of Ireland.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The introduction of this new Flybe service is welcome news indeed; it will expand travel options for British holiday and business travellers who wish to visit Waterford and the South East. We look forward to working closely with Flybe and Waterford Airport to maximise the promotion of this new route and to help drive demand for the flights. As an island destination, direct, convenient and competitive access services are critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with air and sea carriers, airports and other tourism interests to drive demand for this new service, and all other services to Ireland, and to help maintain our vital network of routes and services.

“Great Britain is our largest and most important tourism market, delivering almost half of all our overseas visitors. Tourism Ireland is rolling out the new ‘GB Path to Growth’ strategy, which aims to return this all-important market to sustained growth. We are targeting new groups that are receptive to the type of experience the island of Ireland can offer and raising awareness of the many things to see and do here – underpinned by a strong value message.”
