Celebrity chef Paul Rankin and Tourism Ireland team up for ‘Titanic’ promotion

Northern Ireland promotion on 1 million packs of Rankin’s Selection bread in GB

Tourism Ireland has joined forces with celebrity chef, Paul Rankin, and Irwin’s Bakery, to offer people around GB the chance to win a ‘Titanic’ weekend break in Northern Ireland. The special promotion is under way right now – running on a massive 1 million packs of ‘Rankin Selection’ Irish brown soda bread, in all Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose supermarkets across Great Britain.

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said: “Northern Ireland has an abundance of high quality, home-grown produce to serve to up to visitors. Many of our local products can be ranked among the best in the world and our celebrity chefs are also doing us proud as they help to promote Northern Ireland.

“The superiority of our restaurants, the skills in our cookery schools and the depth of our food heritage are becoming much better known, especially in Great Britain, which is a key market. Through initiatives such as this, we can encourage more visitors to experience the wide range of attractions and events on offer in Northern Ireland.”


Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to join forces with Irwin’s and Paul Rankin for this special promotion, to highlight Belfast and Northern Ireland to potential holidaymakers across Great Britain this spring. We are inviting people in GB to help Paul Rankin create the perfect menu for his restaurant, to be in with the chance to win a weekend break in Belfast and to meet with Paul Rankin.

“Northern Ireland is increasingly known for the quality of its food, with a reputation for high quality, natural products used in both traditional and innovative dishes and we are delighted to have the opportunity to remind people that Northern Ireland is a wonderful food tourism destination.”


This initiative is just one element of Tourism Ireland’s busy programme of promotions for 2013 in Great Britain, the largest and most important market for visitors to Northern Ireland. Building on the positive legacies of ni2012, Tourism Ireland is using major events like the World Police and Fire Games, the G8 Summit in Fermanagh and the superb, ongoing programme for Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 to place Northern Ireland in the spotlight once again around the globe this year, including in GB.
