Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes today’s confirmation that the first three stages of the famous Giro d’Italia, the world’s second-biggest cycling race, will take place on the island of Ireland in 2014. The race kicks off in Belfast on 10 May 2014 and will involve routes taking in Belfast, Armagh and Dublin.

This prestigious event will be seen by an estimated 775 million sports and cycling fans everywhere, presenting us with a fantastic opportunity to highlight the island of Ireland around the world as a top location for sporting events, as well as a wonderful holiday destination. The event, second only to the Tour de France in terms of prestige, will help raise the profile of the island of Ireland and we will be pulling out all the stops to capitalise on the potential of this prestigious sporting event.”
