Swiss journalists find the ‘write stuff’ in the West of Ireland

A group of leading travel writers from Switzerland enjoyed a fact-finding visit to Galway and Mayo recently, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

Representing various publications with a combined circulation of almost 450,000 readers – or potential holidaymakers – the journalists were here to experience at first-hand some of the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland for feature stories they are planning to write about holidays here.

During their time here, the journalists flew with Aer Arann to Inis Mór, where they paid a visit to Dún Aengus and enjoyed an evening of traditional Irish music at Tí Joe Watty’s. They also spent time in Connemara, where they visited Kylemore Abbey and Gardens and went hill-walking at Delphi Mountain Resort in Leenane. They also visited Co Mayo where the cycled along the Great Western Greenway and enjoyed lunch at the Mulranny Park Hotel in Westport.

Gian Gregori, Tourism Ireland Switzerland, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to bring these journalists to the west of Ireland. For many of the group, it was their first time here and they were extremely impressed by the spectacular scenery, the range of outdoor activities on offer here, as well as by the hospitality and friendliness of the people they met. Fact-finding visits like this are extremely important, so the journalists can experience the destination for themselves and then write about it with greater authority and enthusiasm on their return home to Switzerland. Tourism Ireland has a busy promotional programme in place this autumn, showcasing the island of Ireland as a fantastic holiday destination. We are pulling out all the stops to convey the message that there has never been a better time to visit.”
