Seven tourism companies from around the island of Ireland travelled to Manchester at the weekend, to join Tourism Ireland for a promotion aimed at raising awareness of Ireland as a fantastic holiday and short break destination.
The three-day promotion involved a workshop event hosted by Greatdays Travel Group – a leading tour operator specialising in group and coach travel to the island of Ireland – which provided a valuable opportunity for the various companies to present their product to the sales and operations staff of Greatdays and to communicate what is unique about the island of Ireland as a holiday destination. The promotion also took in the extremely busy Trafford Centre in Manchester over the weekend, targeting shoppers and potential holidaymakers with messages about the many things to see and do on holiday here as well as the ease of access from GB.
Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said: “This type of promotion, where we talk directly to prospective holidaymakers in GB, as well as to members of the influential travel trade like Greatdays Travel Group, provides us with an excellent opportunity to spread the word about all the great things to see and do on a holiday or short break in Ireland. It is a really effective platform for our tourism partners to showcase their product direct to both consumers and the travel trade, helping to position the island of Ireland as a ‘must see’ destination and grow tourism business for 2013.
“The promotion in Manchester was also a valuable opportunity to highlight the Gathering and the fantastic programme of events planned for next year. As well as directly targeting the Diaspora and those with a connection to Ireland, Tourism Ireland is also working closely with influential tour operators like Greatdays, so that they will encourage their clients to come here next year to enjoy the festivals and events of the Gathering’.”
Great Britain is our largest and most important tourism market, accounting for over 50% of all visitors from overseas.
