Targeting British holidaymakers at Knitting and Stitching Show

Several Irish tourism organisations joined Tourism Ireland for this year’s Knitting and Stitching Show, which took place at Alexandra Palace in London.

The Knitting and Stitching Show is a four-day specialist fair which attracts around 50,000 visitors, offering an excellent opportunity to to spread the word among potential British holidaymakers about the many great things to see and do here. The show was also a wonderful opportunity to highlight the Gathering and the many festivals and events in the pipeline for next year. This was the first time that Tourism Ireland had a presence at the event.

Vanessa Markey, Tourism Ireland’s head of Great Britain, said: “This type of promotion, where we talk directly to prospective holidaymakers in GB, provides a really good opportunity to spread the word about the many great things to see and do on a holiday or short break in Ireland. Our attendance at this year’s Knitting and Stitching Show was also a wonderful opportunity to highlight the Gathering. This autumn, Tourism Ireland is rolling out a major programme of promotions in GB – and elsewhere around the world – to promote the Gathering, telling people everywhere that 2013 is the perfect year to come home. We are extending an invitation to the tens of millions of people across the world who have ancestral links with Ireland to visit next year, as well as to the many others who feel connected by friendship, business or education and to those who simply hold an affection for what Ireland has given to the world.”
