Journalists from around the world were in Belfast recently to enjoy the closing weekend of the 50th Belfast Festival at Queen’s. Invited here by Tourism Ireland, the journalists travelled here from Great Britain, Germany and from further afield, from the US and India.
As well as enjoying a number of festival events, the group took time to explore Belfast, with a visit to St George’s Market and a guided tour of the city. Their itinerary was designed by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Belfast Festival at Queen’s enjoys worldwide acclaim and its 50th anniversary was a fitting conclusion to what has been a very special year for Northern Ireland, with the wide range of anniversaries, events and developments that have taken place.
“Media visits such as this are extremely important, helping to build awareness of what’s on offer in Northern Ireland and bring the destination to the attention of potential holidaymakers around the world. The journalists have had the opportunity to see and enjoy just some of what’s on offer here at first-hand, helping to reinforce our message that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland. With Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 celebrations about to begin and the World Police and Fire Games taking place in August in Belfast, 2013 will bring fresh and compelling reasons for people around the world to come and visit Northern Ireland.”
