Tourism Ireland has welcomed today’s announcement of a new Aer Lingus Regional flight between London Southend and Dublin. This service will provide a welcome boost for both leisure and business tourism from Great Britain, particularly the East London and Essex region, to Ireland.
Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “The introduction of this new route is more good news for Irish tourism; it will help expand travel options for people living in and around East London and Essex who wish to visit Ireland for a holiday or short break or on business. As part of our ongoing co-operation with key carriers and airports, Tourism Ireland will undertake advertising and other promotions in GB together with Aer Lingus Regional, to maximise the demand for this new route and boost tourism. The announcement of this new route is particularly timely – as we will shortly roll out our brand new Olympics campaign, targeting Londoners who wish to ‘escape’ the Olympics, reminding them that the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the city during the Games is just a short flight away here in Ireland.”
“As an island destination, direct, convenient and competitive access services are critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with air and sea carriers, airports and other tourism interests to drive demand for these flights, and all other services to Ireland, and to help maintain our vital network of routes and services.”
