Social Media Helps Grow Business Tourism

Tourism Ireland in Britain has launched a business tourism promotion with a difference. Working with two of the most influential international event management bookers – ISES and ICCA* – Tourism Ireland is offering senior executives involved in the important MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) sector the chance to win a “t’weetour” or a tour of Ireland by Twitter!

Members of ISES and ICCA who are active in social media are being targeted right now to enter the “t’weetour” competition. Three winners will travel to Ireland in June, courtesy of Tourism Ireland, following three separate itineraries. During their time here, each winner will live tweet and blog about their experiences – in a bid to highlight these to lots of other influential decision-makers in the MICE sector and to help boost business tourism visitor numbers from Great Britain.

The itinerary and planned experiences remain a mystery for now! However, Tourism Ireland, whilst remaining tight-lipped, has promised a few surprises and some of our fantastic venues like The CCD, Titanic Belfast, Malahide Castle, Muckross Traditional Farms, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum are sure to feature!

David Boyce, Tourism Ireland’s head of business and sports tourism, said: “Ireland is a wonderful destination for conferences, meetings and incentives and our innovative “t’weetour” will use Twitter to showcase some of our world-class facilities and venues, as well as our spectacular scenery and attractions. Inviting our competition winners to share their live experiences is a great way to highlight what we have to offer in a dynamic and engaging way. It should prove to be a really effective way of engaging with decision-makers around GB online – by bringing them along for the virtual journey, we’re hoping to inspire them to recommend Ireland as a destination of choice to all their clients for their next business tourism event."

Tourism Ireland’s busy programme of activity to grow business tourism from Great Britain this year includes a number of high profile events and promotions, which are highlighting ease of access, the great facilities and good value rates available for meetings and conferences here and getting the island of Ireland known for excellence in business support.

*ISES is the International Special Events Society, an organisation representing hundreds of professional events planners across GB; and ICCA is the International Congress and Convention Association, whose members organise international meetings and events.
