Belfast’s Park Avenue hotel was the venue for the May board meeting of Tourism Ireland. Minister Arlene Foster met with the board members during the meeting, to hear about Tourism Ireland’s busy programme of promotions, which is under way right now across the globe. The board members also took the opportunity when they were in the city to meet with some Northern Ireland tourism operators, to discuss the forthcoming season and ongoing activity for ni2012.
Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “2012 is such a wonderful year for Northern Ireland. The superb programme of new attractions, events and historic anniversaries taking place this year, and indeed in 2013, is being promoted by Tourism Ireland in 22 markets overseas to stimulate interest in Northern Ireland for holidays and short breaks. Right now, we are rolling out an extensive promotional programme to highlight next month’s Irish Open at Royal Portrush and the world-class golf on offer in Northern Ireland. We are also highlighting the opening of the new Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre, the Peace One Day Concert at Ebrington and the Happy Days International Beckett Festival in Enniskillen. Our ni2012 promotions will reach over 100 million people – or potential holidaymakers – this year. Our message is that there has never been a better time to visit Northern Ireland.”
