Tourism operators from around Ireland travelled to the US and Canada recently to participate in Tourism Ireland’s latest ‘Jump into Ireland’ sales blitz, which took place in the cities of Boston and Toronto. The ‘Jump’ sales blitzes are targeting about 1,500 travel agents in nine key cities in the all-important North American market throughout 2012.
The busy schedule included interactive presentations with a ‘virtual tour’ of Ireland, as well as networking with hundreds of influential travel agents and media contacts in Boston and Toronto – providing an excellent opportunity for the participating Irish tourism companies to showcase their product to these key decision-makers. Similar events will take place in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Vancouver in October.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s vice president of marketing in the United States, said: “North America is a critically important market for tourism to the island of Ireland, second only to GB in terms of visitor numbers. Visitors from North America stay longer, spend more than the average visitor and tour more extensively around the island. Our ‘Jump into Ireland’ events, where we talk directly to travel agents and influential media contacts and tell them what makes the island of Ireland such a fantastic vacation destination, are an excellent opportunity to help grow business from the US and Canada in 2012 and beyond.”
Tourism Ireland has a busy programme of promotional activity in place in the US and Canada for 2012. Alison Metcalfe continued: “We are undertaking strong campaigns this year, which are highlighting great value and urging consumers to ‘jump into Ireland’ and to include Ireland in their vacation plans for 2012. In our promotions, we promise potential visitors an experience that will be unique, full of engagement and great fun. With great access and attractive on-the-ground offers, we believe the island of Ireland is well positioned to deliver what an American or Canadian holidaymaker wants.”
