Ten lucky Germans travelled to Northern Ireland recently as winners of a radio competition on HR3, a local radio station in the Hesse region of Germany. Leading German tour operator DERTOUR teamed up with Tourism Ireland to run the competition, offering listeners the chance to win a six-day tour to Northern Ireland and the North West. On their return home, the prize-winners will report back on their experience and adventures on the popular radio station, describing the locations they visited and people they met along the way.
During their visit to Northern Ireland, the group enjoyed a drive along the stunning Causeway Coast, stopping off at Bushmills Distillery, the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge. Following an overnight stop in the historic Londonderry Arms Hotel in Carnlough, the group travelled onto Belfast and visited the city’s newest attraction, Titanic Belfast, before heading to County Down where they explored the majestic Mountains of Mourne. Their itinerary was devised by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
Zoe Redmond, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Central Europe, said: “This radio promotion was an innovative way for us to reach a wide audience of potential holidaymakers in Germany, highlighting the wonderful tourism offering of Northern Ireland to thousands of listeners; allowing the prize-winners to describe passionately their experiences here to a large radio audience will certainly give a great feeling of authenticity for potential visitors.
