Titanic focus ‘Down Under’

Tourism Ireland’s massive worldwide promotion of Titanic Belfast, the Titanic Belfast Festival and ni2012 moved ‘Down Under’ recently when Susie Millar of Titanic Tours Belfast flew to Australia to join Tourism Ireland for a series of Titanic-themed events.

The events, which took place in Melbourne and Sydney, were attended by influential travel and lifestyle media, as well as key members of the Australian travel trade. Susie Millar’s great-grandfather was one of the ship’s engineers who didn’t survive the journey and Susie brought his story, and that of Titanic, to life for the guests at both events – describing key Titanic locations which feature on her tour. Susie also joined Tourism Ireland at AIME (Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo), a business tourism show in Melbourne, where she addressed Australian travel writers at a press conference.

Orla Saul, Tourism Ireland’s manager for Australia and New Zealand, said: “It was wonderful to have Susie with us at our Titanic-themed events to bring this special and unique story to life for an Australian audience, helping to build the awareness of the association between Titanic and Belfast. Tourism Ireland in Australia is working hard to capitalise on ni2012, highlighting the superb programme of new attractions, events and historic anniversaries taking place this year and giving potential Australian visitors plenty of great reasons to visit Northern Ireland.”

Tourism Ireland has significantly increased the number of Northern Ireland tourism partners attending promotions around the world – with people like Susie Millar helping to bring the ni2012 programme of events and the distinctiveness of a holiday here to life in this special year for Northern Ireland. Over 100 Northern Ireland partners are joining Tourism Ireland to promote around the world in the first quarter of 2012 alone.
